Being of the Arzak dynasty in San Sebastian, we were very excited when we heard that he daughter of the famous No.1 chef in the world for several years, Elena Arzak and father Juan Mari's, were finally opening a restaurant in London within the Halkin Hotel.
So we immediately booked a table for the opening week.
The tasting menu had a few surprising and interesting dishes, and with some of them we couldn't guess the flavours.
The food was of a high standard but were not blown away with it. The standard in London is so high nowadays, that there is great competition to be at the top. And although it was a very nice meal, it didn't quite reach the highest London standards.
Another group of us went back on another occasion to see if it was a case of opening week nerves but again it was very nice, but nothing extra special.
However we did discover a very nice sherry there, which is very rich and almost chocolately in flavour and the best thing about it is that you can buy it in Waitrose !! “Lustau East India Solera, Sherry”.
