Helene Darroze at the Connaught Hotel

We visited Helene Darroze on the 31st August 2016

It was a Great Offer from Opentable. For £52 a 3 course meal plus 2 glasses of wine and a bottle of water and tea or coffee plus a little free gift at the end. What a fantastic deal!

Well this was our first time at this restaurant and I must say that we were blown away. The food, the service and the ambience were all superb. And together with this most amazing deal, who could ask for more.

They started by giving us some extra little bites. The first being a chickpea croquettes with some Serrano style ham, followed by a little ice cream cone looking bite of smoked mackerel with dill mousse which was nice. And with a really cute looking Gazpacho soup in a tea pot which was lovely.

The bread came wrapped in a napkin, served with an unsalted butter and a rather delicious spicy butter (which was not too spicy at all).

We chose the Tomato and Burrata starter. Burrata is one of our absolute favourites, so we were rather selective and this one definitely did not disappoint. It was probably the most creamiest burrata we have ever had, very good.

Our other guests had the Summer Minestrone soup, which they said was very rich and creamy, topped with parmesan cheese, and also very good.

For Main course we chose the Lamb from Tewel Cross blackface, Devon. Well Jason Atherton’s, Pollen Street Social restaurant, has always served our favourite Lamb in London, but Jason you have been knocked off your perch! This was without doubt the best lamb in London in our opinion. It was served with two different cuts of lamb. Our only tiny criticism that there was not enough of it !! But overall there was more than enough food that we got to the stage where we couldn’t eat another thing, not even a “wafer thin mint” !! The sauce that they served with the lamb was also divine. Some of our other guests had the red mullet which was apparently filled with small prawns, and also nice. We do not know what the green palette cleanser was, but it was very very nice.

For Dessert some of us chose the Chocolate dessert which was made from 70% Venezuelan chocolate. The best part was the layer of mousse at the top. Underneath it was more of a crunchy style base.

We must give a shout out to the waiters, as they were brilliant, a perfect blend of not too intrusive but with enormous sense of humours, which really added to the great atmosphere.

Overall we would definitely put this restaurant in the list of our top 5 restaurants in London

Marks - 9.5 out of 10

We would like to thank our guest Vanessa for her great photos, we don't know what we would do without her !
