The Savoy Grill at The Savoy Hotel

We finally got round to going to this grand old English establishment. Why we take all these great British institutions for granted, that are literally on our doorstep, is beyond me ! The Savoy is a beautiful traditional English hotel and at Christmas time it is extra special with its festive decorations.

There are a few restaurants in this hotel. 'Kaspers' which is Seafood Bar and Grill and 'The Savoy Grill', a Gordon Ramsay restaurant. Because it was Truffle Season, The Savoy Grill was putting on a Truffle Evening which we couldn't resist booking.

The Opentable offer was for a 4 course Truffle Escoffier evening for £65.

The restaurant was full and had a great buzzy atmosphere, in relaxing surroundings.

For starters we had Truffled Scrambled Egg and Scottish Smoked Salmon. It really was very delicious, but bizarre as we all felt like we should be having this for breakfast!

Next we were served Linguini Pasta with Black Truffle. Pasta with Truffle is clearly one of those perfect matches made for each other, like strawberries and cream.

For Main Course we all chose the Beef – Tournedos Bearnaise, Beef fillet, spinach, bone marrow on toast with Black Truffle. The other choice on the menu was Braised Wild Halibut with pumpkin and black truffles.

Seeing as we go to many Michelin Star restaurants, it is very difficult to surprise us with new mixes of flavours, but this beef was something special. The blend of flavours and ingredients balanced perfectly and really was excellent. We would definitely go back to the restaurant to have this dish again..

The dessert was called Tutti Frutti Bombe, which was a slight twist of the 1970s Baked Alaska that which was flambéed in Brandy. The outer meringue was quite sweet, but the Tutti Frutti ice cream inside really was a 'blast from the past', we hadn't seen it around since our childhoods !!

We were then served chocolate truffles and tiny mince pies which were actually delicious.

All in all the meal was very tasty and we all agreed that the restaurant and meal was a very good 8/10 and we would all definitely go back to have the Tournedos Bearnaise Beef again.
