Chai Wu at Harrods

We visited Chai Wu on the 18th July 2016. The restaurant was part of Taste of London event.

(This restaurant was visited before we started the food blog so the description of the food will not be in depth).

Ian Pengelley, the Executive chef, used to be the head chef of E&O and Gilgamesh, back in the good old days. Famed for his delicious 'Duck and Watermelon salad'. (A word of warning, do not try it at Gilgamesh nowadays, as it is revolting!). Ian Pengelley also had an Asian influenced restaurant with Gordon Ramsay. Now he is the influence behind the dishes at Chai Wu in Harrods, which is also part of the Mango Tree restaurant group.

The offer through Opentable was for £49 plus service charge for a Sharing Menu. Which consisted of sweet and sour chicken, chilli beef, stir fried seasonal green vegetables and coconut prawns which were delish and two types of dim sum. Followed by an assorted dessert of chocolate melt in the middle pud with ice cream and fruit.

The food was a good contemporary Chinese. However Harrods closes at 8pm, so you cant really go there for an evening meal. And we had to get escorted out of a closed Harrods, by the security guards, at the end of our meal !

So if you are looking for an early evening chinese, or have had a hard day shopping at Harrods, then it is definitely worth stopping in for a bite.

Its a bit tricky to find, it is on the 5th floor and you need to head towards and walk through the sports section to find the restaurant.

And if you ever see Ian Pengelley offering a Cooking Masterclass lesson - definitely book up as it is loads of fun, he is a great character.
